Review: I'm on chapter 2 and am loving this book. I used duolingo for several months but was wanting to use something not on my phone. I was looking for a book full of worksheets and just enough reading for me to grasp the concepts but not enough reading to bore me. This book fits in that window perfectly. I like being able to take it as slow or as fast as i need and that the lessons are in depth enough to feel like i really understand.

My only complaints are that some adjectives could use slightly longer definitions that include nuances and more specific translations but cross referencing on Google has filled in those gaps. It would also be great if the book was spiral bound as some of the pages are hard to write on, as they don't fall flat on the table.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn Spanish, relearn, or brush up on their skills!

Title: Well-Rounded Book

Review: This book is a must have if you are learning Spanish. Each chapter is organized in the app that is available with the book so that you can practice the vocab listed in the chapter and practice pronunciation. Great investment! I would suggest not doing a entire chapter in one sitting but to work through it over a few days with supplementation from the app to ensure mastery of the material. I am using this book in conjunction with private tutoring lessons.

Title: All you need to teach yourself

Review: This book absolutely replaces years of college classes and you don't have to use any companion materials: It's a textbook and workbook in one. You just learn the critical stuff and can start speaking the language. I have also used their book for German and I believe they have at least one other language available... For a polyglot, finding this series was like finding a diamond on the ground. They are far and away the best value language tools I've ever encountered so ignore the ugly covers and just buy the book.

Title: This book is very comprehensiva

Review: I finished a computer spanish course, Fluenz. It was a good course, but is hard for me to judge. if I had not taken several quarters of Spanish Conversaion years ago the conjugation of verbs might have been harder for me. It did not cover everything I was seeking out books to fill in what I missed and this book was found. It is not perfect, but
I can skip around and find what is needed like how to conjugate verbs to command. This book and Duolingo.com are filling in many of the things a single computer course cannot teach unless it it very long. I am now starting to read this book from the beginning to end. It is slow going since a lot of new words are in each chapter but with Duolingo and a review of Fluenz progress is being made. I was thinking of getting a Spanish speaking misstress, but for some reason I don't think my wife would approve. I've tried many books but this book, with duolingo, 501 Spanish Verbs, a good Spanish dictionary, and a course like Fluenz, Spanish fluency seems to be obtainable without years in some college. Buy it, you will not be disappointed it you really use it. It has quizzes with answers at the end of the book. I forgot the most important item also get on line to Spanish Dictionary.com. You can test your sentences and write in english for a spanish translation.

Title: Probably better for an adult or an older student...

Review: The lessons move quickly and also seems like they assume you know some elementary Spanish - some of the exercised that want you to translate from Spanish to English include words that were barely introduced in the previous chapters. Younger students might be frustrated by the pace - the teacher might want to slow it down, provide flashcards and other exercises before moving onto another chapter. There is an answer key in the back but instead of providing just the answer, an explanation alongside would be great. So unless the teacher has a Spanish background, this book might not be the best choice.

Title: Good book for self learners and a great resource for teachers

Review: This is a well organized book, where the self-learners determine the pace. Easy explanations in English while still highlighting the impossibility to learn Spanish translating word-by-word from English to Spanish. Good and well thought out exercises for each section, capped with a reading comprehension exercise at the end of each section.
As a Spanish instructor, this book provides another resource for clarifications in the student native language and exercise to practice, practice and practice.

Title: Make sure you have a Spanish dictionary

Review: This book covers multiple years of Spanish in a compact method. I bought it to use as a homeschool course. It really isn't the right choice for that. Every new concept has only one set of practice problems and many of those require a Spanish dictionary. Each chapter has at least one reading comprehension piece that you can listen to on the app; but, again, a dictionary is necessary because there is no English translation. On the plus side, I have been able to navigate it fairly well with only high school and a little college Spanish (20+ years ago).
